Portuguese Olives

back

The planting of new olive groves has led to the spread of new varieties of olive, such as Picual and Arbequina, originating in Spain, which are now widespread in farms throughout the country. These two varieties, which are highly productive, are joined by the Portuguese ones, especially the Galician olive (historically more widespread in our country), the cobrançosa and Cordovil, which give the olive oil produced in each region an "own identity". The verdeal has a maturation very late, originating a fine and fruity olive oil. Only about 5% of the total national production is intended for table olives. The rest is turned into olive oil.
